Reflections Over Article.

"The Net Generation as Preservice Teachers: Transferring Familiarity with New Technologies to Educational Environments" is the title of the article I got. The main idea of this article is talking about preservice (haven't started in a classroom yet) teachers and the importance of technology in the classroom. A interesting quote form the article says that "digital natives have been defined as people who are born after 1984 who have grown up with digital technologies, are at ease with new technologies, and expect the new technologies in their education."  I think this is very true for some people, for example my grandma was a teacher for many many years and when the school started using their emails for everything she had a harder time with it. This article was pretty much about how preservice teachers already have knowledge of different technological outlets and if they would use them in the classroom.

  1. I would agree that our generation has a lot easier time working with, and incorporating technology. Being as technologically advanced as we are the kids that we will be teaching are going to be introducing even more to us. Pretty soon we will be the generation before us and stuck in our ways.

    1. Your response makes me think of my original thought for TPACK introduction, which may ideally implement in our teacher education program someday. To ensure that students retain information from TPACK, the faculty “thread,” or integrate, lessons from the initial course throughout our program, beginning with the first lesson that teacher candidates plan in their first methods class and continuing through to their student-teaching year.
From the outset, pre-service teachers must include in their lesson plans a way to assess whether children have understood the lesson; a clear set of goals detailing what kids are supposed to do and know at the end of a lesson; a list of the technology they intend to use and why; and, if they’re not going to use technology, an explanation.
The point isn’t whether you use technology or whether you don’t – it’s when you use it and why you use it!!

  2. Wikis, for example, are viewed ideal for fostering joined-knowledge construction and expression of diverse opinions through collaborative authorship, and blogs are considered participatory platform for conversations and self-expression. Such tools can also be portals for teachers where they can access various teaching resources, collaborate with other teachers, and share their practices virtually.
Regarding structural issues, students and teachers may be constrained by their lack of technology skills, limited technology access, and the emerging nature of technology in school settings. Although students are viewed digital natives, not all of them may be digitally enhanced, needing further assistance and technical support when they use technologies.
That's the major reason that education majors take a technology-integration class, such as technology and design, which “talks about how technology can support teaching and learning inside the classroom.

  3. "digital natives have been defined as people who are born after 1984 who have grown up with digital technologies, are at ease with new technologies, and expect the new technologies in their education." I would have to disagree. There are individuals that were born after this date that are not at ease with technology. I for one was born just after this date 1980 something... but didn't get exposed to of even have a computer until I was in the 7th grade. It takes me a while to figure out how to work things. I sill am not sure what a "wiki" is.

  4. Our generation has been built and molded by technology. Without technology today most people cannot even function. The advancement of technology in our time alone is mind blowing. From computers with large monitors and towers to an entire computer in your pocket (cell phones). Granted without technology we wouldn't be were we are today. But I often wonder where would we be if we weren't so dependant on technology.
